Q: What is the order of events pre-race ? What do I do first?
A:
First, you must go to packet pick up (see Schedule of Events for days and locations).  Second, you get your body marked and bike inspected at the entrance to transition. Third, you will set-up you transition area NOW relocated to the area immediately next to the Marina and Swim Start/Finish.

Q: Can I register on Race Day?
A:
No. Not for the Showdown at Sundown. Registration is open now! Do not wait. We may need to close registration early if we reach capacity. 

Q: Are there restrooms at transition?
A:
Yes. There will be portable restrooms located at Transition as well as throughout the Village.

Q: Is the Lake at Lake Las Vegas safe?
A:
Yes, Lake Las Vegas is safe and clean. Water quality testing is done regularly, with reporting requirements to the City of Henderson. No vaccines, no shots, no panic attacks necessary.

Q: Are wetsuits allowed and what is the expected water temp?
A:
You may wear your wet suit regardless of water temperature. However, if race officials announce race morning that the water temperature is above the wetsuit-legal limit of 78 then you will not count for an age group award if you wear your wetsuit. This will not be a concern of ours in March. The anticipated water temp will be between 57° to 63°.

Q: Is there a lost and found?
A:
Yes. It will be located at the timing tent by the finish line during and immediately after the race. After that, you can e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to inquire about an item.

Q: Is there a warm up swim on Saturday morning?
A:
No one will be allowed in the Lake until 12:30pm on race day.

Q: Can my friend, teammate, wife or husband pick up my race packet?
A:
No! Only the athlete can pick up his or her packet. Bring Identification and your USAT card if you have one.

Q: How many water stations are on the run course?
A:
4 on the Sprint , 5 on the Intermediate and 9.

Q: Are race briefings mandatory?
A:
No, briefings are not mandatory! But complaining about a change in course, aid station, start time etc. etc. is prohibited if you do not attend the pre race briefing. The briefing will discuss the course, event rules, and a question and answer session.

Q: What if I cannot attend the briefings?
A:
If, by some force of the universe, you do not attend a race briefing on Saturday at the Swim Start......read our website prior to the race, read your emails from Sunset Racing and read the information sheet in your race packet.

Q: Do I have to wear the swim cap?
A:
Yes, the swim cap MUST be worn. The color given to each athlete is specific to your wave, so you cannot switch colors, you cannot switch waves, you cannot switch!

Q: What is the best place for spectators to watch the race?
A:
Swim Start  and Exit - On the dock in the Montelago Village.
Run Course - along Montelago Blvd. between the Loews Hotel and the path that leads under the Bridge at the Ritz Carlton.
Race Finish - At the Auld Dubliner.

Q: How do I know if I am registered?
A:
If you received an Active.com confirmation email and payment receipt you are registered.

Q: Are there any refunds, transfers or deferrals?
A:
There are NO refunds, NO transfers, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Q: Will the race T-shirts be cooler than the same old, white, race t-shirt that I clean my floors with?
A:
Black "fashion tees", (that same t-shirt weight and cut as the shirts made by Ed Hardy, Affliction etc. ) shirts without excessive logos and the very cool Showdown logo. There will be a mens and womens shirt.

Q: What cool stuff do I get for entering and finishing?
A:
First, you get to do the Triathlon. All finishers receive a finisher's medal. All athletes over the age of 21 will receive a coupon for a free pint of beer at the Auld Dubliner after the race. You'll also receive water, fruit and bagels at the finish. There will be food specials at the Auld Dubliner as well as a live band!

Q: What format will awards be given?
A:
The top 3 Men and the top 3 Women Overall in the Sprint, Intermediate and Long Distance Triathlons will be given Overall awards. These athletes will be removed from the Age Group awards eligibility.
