Q: What is the order of events for the race ? What do I do first?
A: First, you must REGISTER for the race. registration is done online by clicking the REGISTRATION button at the bottom of the Desert Beach event page. Then, during race week go to packet pick up (see Schedule of Events for days and locations).  On race day you get your body marked, and  get your timing chip at the entry of the Transition area. Third, you will set-up you transition area starting at 5:00am.

Q: Can I register on Race Day?
A: No. Registration is open now! Do not wait. We may need to close registration early if we reach capacity. If the race is not at capacity, we will accept late sign ups at the 2 packet pick-ups. There will be a late fee assessed.

Q: Are there restrooms at transition?
A: Yes. There will be portable restrooms at transition.

Q: Is Lake Las Vegas safe?
A:
Yes, Lake Las Vegas is safe and clean. Water quality testing is done regularly, with reporting requirements to the City of Henderson. No vaccines, no shots, no panic attacks necessary.

Q: Are wetsuits allowed?
A:Each age group participant shall be permitted to wear a wetsuit without penalty in any event sanctioned by USA Triathlon up to and including a water temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, age group participants may wear a wetsuit at their own discretion, provided, however that participants who wears a wetsuit within such temperature range shall not be eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.

The water temp is anticipated to be between 72 and 78 on race day. Keep an eye on our website as the race gets closer for water temperature updates.

Q: Is there a lost and found?
A: Yes. It will be located at the timing tent by the finish line during and immediately after the race. After that, you can e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to inquire about an item that you may have lost.

Q: Is there a warm up swim on Saturday morning?
A:
Yes. See the Schedule of Events page.

Q: DO I have to be a USAT member to race?
A: Yes. Whether it is a yearly license ($39.00) or a Daily ($10.00), you must be a member of the USAT during the day of EACH USAT event. This includes any Pre Ride that we may offer prior to the race. Our pre rides are USAT Sanctioned. Each pre-ride will require a license, so....if you plan on coming to any pre-rides AND racing AND you don't buy the Yearly license, it will cost you 3 x $10. Or you can kick down the extra $9 bucks, pay up front and avoid the hassle. You may purchase a yearly or a daily at the pre-ride or packet pick-up, or you may go to the USAT website and take care of it online. If you choose to buy your membership online and it is within 1 month of race day, be sure to print your receipt and bring it with you to the race. It is as good as the membership card that you will receive.

Q: Can my friend, teammate, wife or husband pick up my race packet?
A: No! Only the athlete can pick up his or her packet. Be sure to bring Identification and your USAT card if you have one.

Q: How many water stations are on the run course?
A: 2 on each lap of the run, plus one at the finish.

Q: How will I know if I'm on the right course?
A: The Bike course will be marked with blue arrows on the signs. The Run course will be marked with Red arrows. Blue Bike, Red Run!

Q: Are race briefings mandatory?
A: No, briefings are not mandatory! But complaining about a change in course, aid station, start time etc. etc. is prohibited if you do not attend the pre race briefing. The briefing will discuss the course, event rules, and a question and answer session.

Q: What if I cannot attend the briefings?
A: If, by some force of the universe, you do not attend a race briefing on Friday night or 15 minutes prior to the Swim Start, at the swim Start......read our website prior to the race and read your emails from Sunset Racing.

Q: Do I have to wear the swim cap?
A: Yes, the swim cap MUST be worn. The color given to each athlete is specific to your wave, so you cannot switch colors, you cannot switch waves, you cannot switch!

Q: What is the best place for spectators to watch the race?
A: Swim Start and Exit - On the grass at the Desert Beach.
Run Course - On the hill in the same area as the finish and transition area. Bring binoculars and see the runners from 1/2 mile out!
Race Finish - at the finish line in the center of all of the action!Start  and Exit - At the Pool area and along the Railing on the Lakeside of the Loews Hotel.

Q: How do I know if I am registered?
A: If you received an Active.com confirmation email and payment receipt you are registered.

Q: Are there any refunds, transfers or deferrals?
A: There are NO refunds, NO transfers, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Q: Will the race T-shirts be cooler than the same old, white, race t-shirt that I clean my floors with?
A: Long sleeve shirts without excessive logos and the very cool Desert Beach logo on the back.

Q: What cool stuff do I get for entering and finishing?
A: First, you get to do the only offroad triathlon in Southern Nevada. All finishers receive a finisherʼs medal. Youʼll also receive water, fruit and bagels at the finish. We have cool awards for winning your age group and raffle prizes to those that attend the post Race awards party at Carmines after the race.
