Showdown at Sundown

The Showdown at Sundown - Triathlon at Lake Las Vegas

Start your triathlon year off with the perfect race. Kick off your 2010 season at the Showdown at Sundown on March 27th at Lake Las Vegas, NV. This year’s Showdown has 3 great races: a ½ distance (Long course), an Intermediate and a Sprint. All with an afternoon start time. Sleep in, have lunch and then kick off your season. Showdown at Sundown is also a SW Regional Youth event. Special categories for 19 and under age groups (see below for Youth Series information).

All New Speed Tri Series

2010 marks the start of the all new Speed Tri Series from Sunset Racing. Check out www.speedtri.com to find a race near you.

What is "Speed Tri?" Speed Tri is designed to find the fastest triathlete in the race, not the fastest swimmer, cyclist or runner but the fastest, complete Triathlete! Every Speed Tri consists of a 500 Meter Swim, 20 Kilometer Bike and a 5 Kilometer Run. It’s not the longest race out there but every second counts. Power, strength and execution are critical when challenging yourself, your fellow triathletes and the clock. We all love to compete and in the real world, not everyone has 40 hours a week to train for an ultra endurance race!

At Speed Tri, Its “your” Speed that counts.

The Lake Las Vegas Speed Tri on May 1st is also a SW Region USAT Youth* event (See below Youth Series information)

Metroman Triathlon, Asbury Park, NJ

Taking the NY/NJ Metro Region by Storm!

Attendance increased in 2009 to well over 500 athletes at this event that is hosted by Asbury Park, NJ and its scenic Boardwalk, beaches and fast bike course! Based on the post race response in 09’, Sunset Racing anticipates another record setting year. New cash prizes, a special post race party coupled with a great race, make Metroman 2010, the race of the Summer!

The AMICA Triathlon – Lake Las Vegas

Amica Insurance and Sunset Racing have Teamed up for 3 more years!

Amica Insurance and their Amica Sprint Tri Series have found a home at Lake Las Vegas with Sunset Racing. This long term commitment exemplifies Amica’s commitment to the sport and to Southern Nevada. Perfect weather, an intermediate tri and a sprint tri that could qualify you for the Amica Championship in November. The 2009 event gave the athletes, a competitive course, massage therapists, Einstein’s Bagels, die cast color finisher medals and some great Amica and Lake Las Vegas hospitality. Don’t miss the 2010 event!

Lake Chelan, WA Marathon, ½ Marathon, 10k and Speed Tri Weekend

At Sunset Racing’s first event in WA, The City’s of Chelan and neighboring Manson were so pleased with the 2009 event that they invited us back again for 2010. This time we are bringing our Speed Tri to Chelan for a Sunday morning race. With so much support from the City of Chelan, the area Wineries, Chelan Vacation Properties and the overwhelming beauty in the region, this race will prove to be a yearly “must”, on your race calendar.

*Youth/Junior Southwest Development Race Series

USA Triathlon recognizes that not every junior athlete is ready for or interested in the draft-legal format. Draft-legal racing requires a unique skill-set that takes time to master. Junior Development Races provide athletes a gateway into the developmental pipeline. Athletes will experience triathlon in its traditional, non-drafting format, officiated using USA Triathlon Rules. Junior Development Races are typically sprint-distance and have been selected because of their "junior-friendly" atmosphere and age-appropriateness.

The Southwest Region of USAT is sponsoring a series of developmental sprint races to encourage youth (13-15) and junior (16-19) athletes to participate in triathlons. Ages are determined by USAT rules (age as of Dec 31, 2010). The Southwest region will have a point series with updated divisional rankings throughout the year.

Each event winner will receive an award provided by the region, as well as ranking points. The last event of the season will crown the series champion in the youth (13-15) and the junior (16-19) age catagories. A championship award will be given to the first place female youth and junior and the first place male youth and junior athlete.
